LOR. Lisbon Open Room
The confrontation between Domestic and Monumental was the motto to generate a building that reveals the surrounding as landscape. The confrontation evolves: the square and the circle, the opposition between the spiritual and the material; the courtyard and the cloister, as a reference of the Greek Ágora and Stoa. These forces converge to generate a space of gathering, an urban scene where educational and cultural activities are interconnected with the public character of the space.
The underground square, protected from the weather, keeps a strait connection with the exterior, an “Open Room” where people could experiment a sense of belonging and continuity with the surroundings, revealing itself as a manifest of the public dimension of the city.
